The BMW i8: A Plug-in Hybrid You'll Actually Want to Drive

The BMW i8 has supercar good looks and real-world usability, all in a plug-in hybrid package. It's a great car for a world where fuel prices keep rising in Saint Louis. Read on for more details on the new BMW i8.

Power and Performance

The i8's rear wheels are powered by a turbocharged, mid-mounted 1.5L three-cylinder engine. The front wheels are driven by an under-the-hood electric motor, which is in turn powered by a lithium-ion battery. The entire system is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. With this effective AWD system, you'll get approximately 370 hp and 420 lb. ft. of torque.

Safety Gear

Along with all the required safety equipment, the i8 offers front-seat knee airbags. The i8's body is very tough, and the engineers at BMW have likely subjected it to rigorous testing. Though it hasn't yet been tested by the IIHS or the NHTSA, that's not a deal-breaker.

The BMW i8 is a plug-in, but it's far from bland and boring like most hybrids. See and test drive it today at Autohaus BMW.
