The new BMW 520d EfficientDynamics, soon to be released in the U.K., will not only bring more options for BMW customers but will introduce a new technology. It will reset the benchmark for fuel efficiency and driving pleasure, offering the highest available in its class. Specifically, it will offer a jaw-dropping estimated fuel economy of 62.8 mpg and CO emissions of 119 g/km.
This is an impressive feat that BMW has accomplished and we at Autohaus BMW can't wait for it to come to the U.S. The 520d will be fitted with a 184-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine that puts out 280 lb.-ft of torque, it still charges ahead from zero to 60 mph in just over eight seconds. It's nice to know that BMW didn't forget that performance is what sets BMW apart from the rest.
Among the many technologies integrated into BMW 520d EfficientDynamics to make these stats possible are Auto Start-Stop, Optimum Gearshift Indicator, Brake Energy Regeneration, and Active Aerodynamics. But the technology BMW enthusiasts are likely to be most impressed by is BMW's new ECO-PRO Mode switch. When turned on, it adjusts engine mapping, throttle sensitivity, automatic gearshift points (where applicable), and power consumption (i.e., that used by comfort features such as climate control and heated seats).
When will the BMW 520d EfficientDynamics go on sale? This September, starting at 30,435 pounds ($49,000). Remember though, at this time, it is not slated to hit U.S. shores.
In the U.S. the BMW 5 Series will, however, continue to feature five sedans (528i, 535, 535xDrive, 550i, 550i xDrive) and four Gran Turismos (535i, 535 xDrive, 550i, 550i xDrive).
