BMW enthusiasts may be very different people, but they have at least three things in common. They enjoy the finest in German engineering, like power, and appreciate exquisite aesthetic.
Therefore, we at Autohaus BMW thought you'd be interested to know New York's world-famous Guggenheim Museum has decided to sell a one-of-a-kind BMW art car, in an effort to raise funds and create other exhibits. The Bavarian canvas on wheels, we're speaking of is an M1 painted by renowned artist Frank Stella in 1979.
While BMW actually commissioned many art cars (including one by Pop Art icon Andy Warhol) for their own private collection, the M1 painted by Stella is the only one officially sanctioned by the factory for a private client.
Part of the Guggenheim's collection since the late nineties, the Stella BMW M1 will be auctioned off by Bonhams in August at the Quail Lodge in Carmel California. It will undoubtedly go for a very pretty penny. We expect half-a-million dollars - at least.
Autohaus BMW, located at 3015 S. Hanley Rd. Saint Louis, MO 63143, promise to let you know if any points of interest develop surrounding the auction and how much the esteemed BMW art car actually yields. If you want to catch a glimpse of the Stella BMW M1 art car before it heads to Carmel, you can do so outside Bonhams' NYC offices in the atrium of the IBM Building at 56th and Madison.
