While out on the road, drivers talking with drivers via smartphones can be quite distracting and potentially dangerous. However, vehicles talking with vehicles could just save a life...or at least a few minutes of time out of your day. What exactly are we talking about? Allow Autohaus BMW to cut the confusion and explain.
Already in existence for some new BMW models are vehicle sensor systems that are limited in both distance and time. BMW, however, has come up with a new system called "Car-to-x" which goes, or should we say "sees," above and beyond the average digital eye. Still in the works, the system has the ability to communicate with other vehicles and convey information regarding weather hazards, upcoming accidents, road blocks, heavy traffic and more. Because "Car-to-x" receives information from fellow four-wheeled friends, there are very few limits on distance. For example, one vehicle could communicate to another that may be many miles behind or around several corners.
If the system operates by vehicle to vehicle social networking, you may be wondering why it isn't called "Car-to-Car." That's because we haven't yet mentioned one of the best parts. The innovative BMW technology can also operate involving infrastructure. This means that driving staples such as traffic lights can communicate warnings and information to your vehicle as well.
While the German automaker has not yet announced when it will release "Car-to-x" or which model it will come first in, Autohaus BMW at 3015 S. Hanley Rd Saint Louis, MO 63143-3613 promises to keep you posted. For the time being, feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
