Crossovers, by definition, are more fuel-efficient versions of larger SUV models. Built off the platform of smaller vehicles, crossovers offer drivers the top-tier when it comes to utility and performance. And in the case of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) lineup from BMW, a little bit more sport and pep as well.

One of the best examples of this is the BMW X3 which since its debut in 2003, has been a favorite of ours at Autohaus BMW as well as for the St. Louis area and beyond.

And now, BMW has announced it will add a variant of the BMW X3 to its European lineup of new BMW models, known as the BMW X3 sDrive 18d.

Set to arrive in fall, the BMW X3 sDrive 18d will feature rear-wheel-drive and the same 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine found in its sibling the BMW X1. The inclusion of this engine will result in a 55-mpg EPA estimated rating and the production of 143-hp and 266-lb.-ft. of torque.

And along with its stellar fuel-economy, the BMW X3 sDrive 18d will feature additional green technology in the form of: Brake Energy Regeneration, an Optimum Shift Indicator, electric power steering, ECO PRO mode and start-stop.

And for BMW enthusiasts who don't like to see too much change with their favorite models, it should be noted that although BMW is striving for economy in some areas, the Bavarian automaker's commitment to premium quality is not lacking whatsoever. In fact, the BMW X3 sDrive 18d will feature all of the standard best-in-class features BMW offers such as: 17-inch alloy wheels, and a BMW iDrive 6.5-inch color screen.

As we've already mentioned, the BMW X3 sDrive 18d will be a European-exclusive model, but since Autohaus BMW is committed to providing the latest BMW news, we found it worth mentioning. And speaking of which, if you want to learn more, we invite you to stay tuned, and also feel free to stop by and see us at 3015 S. Hanley Rd. St. Louis, MO 63143-3613, any time.
