The summer heat can take a toll on more than just your skin and your energy levels. In fact, a heat wave can put your vehicle at serious risk. To ensure that you don't get sidelined on a day trip to the beach or a weeklong road trip, we have a few tips to share with you today.

  • Make sure your air conditioner is functioning properly: How can you stay cool, calm and collected when your AC stops working? Before you venture off on your vacation have your system examined by a professional as your AC has a higher risk of failing in hot weather.
  • Get your oil changed: If you're planning an extended trip on the open road it's essential that you get your oil changed, especially if you're already due for a routine appointment.
  • Have your tires checked: Just like tires can deflate in cooler temperatures, your tires can overinflate when temperatures skyrocket. Check your tire pressures regularly and don't forget to check your spare before you need it.
  • Prepare for emergencies: Pack some basic tools --first aid kit, jumper cables, flashlight, flares, emergency blanket, etc. -- in your trunk in case of an emergency.
