Here at Autohaus BMW, we’re big fans of the BMW i Series models, especially the pure-electric BMW i3, and we’re not the only ones. Recently BMW announced that it has won its bid to supply the LAPD with a fleet of 100 BMW i3 models.

The LAPD decided to go with the BMW i3 over the competition for a combination of reasons encompassing its EPA-rated best-in-class efficiency, outstanding reliability, and the BMW ConnectedDrive services, an added aspect of value for the LAPD which will be used to support fleet management. Also factored into the decision was BMW’s great understanding of charging infrastructure and the many BMW i centers available for convenient and cost-effective servicing of the fleet.

The BMW i3 electric vehicles won’t be engaging in any high-speed chases; instead it will serve as a non-emergency vehicle for the department—as transportation for officers or during community outreach events.

“We should be thinking green in everything we do — and these new EVs show how local government can lead. Our sustainability plan pushes L.A. to speed adoption of greener practices and technologies, which also save money and resources.” –Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti

“The attributes of the BMW i3 position it to excel as the ideal vehicle for municipal organizations. The performance and technical capabilities, such as the BMW i3 ‘s acceleration, and its ConnectedDrive integration, are perfectly suited to transform the future mobility of the Los Angeles Police Department while also reducing their carbon footprint,” –Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO of BMW of North America

As the modern world changes, we’re glad to see municipalities adopting some “greener” practices, and we’re especially glad to see that the BMW i3 is playing a role in this positive change. Of course, you don’t need to be fielding a huge fleet for you to reap the benefits of pure-electric driving in the BMW i3. Come see us in our showroom, located on 3015 S. Hanley Rd, Saint Louis, and take the BMW i3 for a test drive. We know you won’t be disappointed, and it may just change the way you think about electric driving for good! What’s there to lose?
