If you've got a car, you've got a set of brakes to look after. While prevention is always best practice, brakes are often "out of sight and out of mind", that is, until someone gets hurt.

Rather than risk waiting, keep a lookout for the following cues that indicate impending doom involving your braking system:

1. Pulling- Did you know that your car pulling to the right or left can mean a problem with your brakes? Often associated with a tire alignment, a vehicle that pulls can also be a braking issue. The trick, however, is that the majority of the pulling happens while braking, not driving.

2. Squealing- Ever apply your brakes and think, "Whoa, what was that?" If so, don't ignore it. You need to get your brakes looked at, right away. Sounds like high-pitched squealing, low grinding or screeching are all signs of severe wear and tear.

3. A Squishy Feeling- Does your brake have a soft and squishy feeling when you apply it that is reminiscent of your favorite pillow? It shouldn't. In general, brakes should feel quite firm. Get to a mechanic, quick!
