To understand the different car rating safety systems, it is essential to follow the article below.
Who Should You Trust to Rank Your Car?
One thing is that the United States Federal Government has only authorized the National Highway Testing Safety Administration(NHTSA) and a famous non-profit organization called the Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Their ranking systems may vary, but the results are the same.
NTHSA
NTHSA is a government agency that tests the safety of a car after a collision. They give a star rating, with the highest being five stars.
IIHS
?
As indicated above, IIHS is a non-governmental movement entrusted with offering security ratings. Most Insurance Companies rely on their information while giving out policies. Their safety rating is different from that of NTHSA and will rank the test into four categories; Poor, Marginal, Acceptable, and Good. A car that has passed the test will get the ‘Good’ rating while one that has failed all tests shall get a ‘Poor’ rating.
