Rather than presenting the central console touchscreen and the driver’s readout as two separate modules like so many other vehicles, the i5 combines them into one continuous unit by using a curved pane of glass, giving a seamless visual experience for information and entertainment. This central unit responds to touch controls, voice or gestured cues, making it easier for drivers to select modes while concentrating on the road.
The i5 also makes driving easier with a range of assistance features that increase safety while reducing some sources of tedium while driving. The Highway Assistant mode offers hands-free driving, while collision mitigation, blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control keep the vehicle more secure even at freeway speeds.
